Emirati Bedu
Mohammed* is an Emirati Bedouin from the Northern Emirates. He loves his camels, and he invests lots of time and energy in caring for them. He oversees regular blood tests to ensure they are healthy. He watches his racing camels exercise at the nearby camel track. He drives to another farm to gather milk from his she-camels. Although his camels seem to always be on his mind, he also enjoys sitting at the farm drinking tea and chatting with other Bedouin men stopping in for brief visits.
Unlike the perception of a life constantly on the move and dwelling in a tent, Mohammed* works for the UAE government in Abu Dhabi (almost 2.5 hours away from his camels and family). He owns a home in Abu Dhabi where he often stays during his weeklong shift of work. Then he returns to the Northern Emirates where he stays with his family during his 1-week vacation prior to his next 1-week work shift. These vacation weeks are the times Caleb* can connect with Mohammed* at his camel farm.
Not long ago, Caleb* proclaimed the Gospel to Mohammed*. He also invited Mohammed* to read the Bible together. Mohammed responded by saying, “Your invitation to read the Bible is like inviting me to drink alcohol, and it would be impossible for me to do that.”
Caleb went on to acknowledge Mohammed’s* strong convictions about Islam, and Mohammed* responded, “It is important to me because I am proud of being Arab”.
Prayer Requests
