The Barista

Nyala moved from Ethiopia to work in Dubai at a coffee shop. Her family is Muslim, but she would often ask Christians she knew in Ethiopia to read the Bible with her. Every person she asked laughed at her or did not take her seriously. 

One day a young woman that was also new to Dubai came into her coffee shop. As they were talking the conversation turned to spiritual things. Nyala asked the woman if she was a Christian.  

“Yes,” the woman said with surprise that Nyala seemed to know.   

“I’ve wanted to read the Bible and learn about Jesus, but none of the Christians I met back home would read with me because I am a Muslim.” 

The woman was grieved that no one would read God’s Word with her.  She wondered if it was out of fear or because they hadn’t read the Bible themselves. She immediately set up a time to meet with Nyala and begin to read the Bible with her.  

After making it through the book of John, Nyala was overwhelmed by the love of God and wanted to repent.  

 Prayer Requests

• Pray for people like Nyala who desire to read the Bible to be connected with Believers in the city. 

• Pray for Believers to be sensitive to God’s leading and watch for where He is working.
