Stuck in the Hospital

Covid-19 created hospitals where doctors are often busier and more stressed than normal. Many of the doctors work 48+ hour weeks and can’t remember the days since they last spent time with their families.

A recurring problem in the hospitals is that patients from lower socio-economic classes get stuck and cannot leave for years. The hospital will provide for them, but they do not have the means to move them to get care outside the hospital or get the treatment they need to recover.

During this season of chaos, there was a young girl who was in the situation of getting stuck in the hospital if she did not get the liver transplant she needed. Her family was unable to afford the plane ticket to travel to the country to get the care she needed, much less the medical expenses.

The hospital staff came together to pay for the family’s plane tickets, oxygen for the flight and all that they needed.

“It was a sweet moment of God’s grace at work,” said Hannah, one of the doctors at the hospital. “Even in this situation there are opportunities to come together and give, which is a beautiful thing.”

The week they were supposed to fly other expenses came up and the nurses were searching for cash in pockets and bags until they had enough so she was able to go. “It was really unifying and a good opportunity to share encouragement with the staff,” shared Hannah.

Father, please help your children to be generous during this time and help those stuck in hospitals to get the care they need. Please show unbelievers the generosity and hospitality of your church and turn many to the hope that only Christ provides. Amen.
