God’s Guidance in the Hospital

“There are a lot of times working in the hospital that God has given me moments of grace to do the right thing with a patient,” said Elena, a pediatric doctor in Dubai. When Elena came for her shift there was a 4-year-old child who had been admitted overnight. Elena was the second doctor to see the girl and she’d been diagnosed with an inflammatory disease that required expensive and risky medication.

The girl was sleeping peacefully on her stomach, which was the perfect position for Elena to listen to her lungs which would be very difficult if the child was awake. She said she had a prompting to ask the mother about the child’s medical history. While she was listening, she could hear decreased breath on one side of the child’s back which meant there was fluid in one lung.

Elena diagnosed the child with pneumonia and they were able to drain the fluid so she could return to her home that week. “It was God’s grace to be in the room at the right time and be intentional to re-hear the story and evaluate the diagnosis before any treatment,” Elena said.

Elena said the medical team always comes together when they get a chance to share about the day, and she said they are usually eager to talk about spiritual influence in the workplace more than in America. During the down time of night shift she was able to share with her residents about what it looked like to experience the Holy Spirit’s guidance and how God helped her with the little girl.

Pray for doctors in the city to hear the Holy Spirit while at the hospital and give glory to God in their work.
