Families Reaching Families

The idea of apologizing to children was a foreign concept for Rob and Martina’s Syrian neighbors. To admit wrongdoing to their children would bring them shame.

“The biggest way we share [about the Gospel] is through our children,” said Rob, “To humble ourselves before our kids creates a good opportunity to reveal how God’s Word shows us how to live.”

Rob and Martina often have neighbor families and families from their children’s school over for holidays, birthday parties, and dinners. They’ve found by inviting families into their home to share family life, these friends will naturally pick up on the differences in their own families.

Their Syrian neighbors find their own kids seem to be lacking in joy, despite thinking their move to Dubai would give them everything they need. Their teenage daughter continues to rebel, and the father easily loses his temper with her. The father wants to interact with her, but does not know the way.

In contrast, Rob and Martina’s children are satisfied with simple things. Of course they are not perfect, but they are obedient and thankful for what their parents give them. Their daughter, Maya, who is eleven has learned to be intentional about her faith.  She asks her classmates about their lives and how she can pray for them.

One day the Syrian father initiated coffee with Rob. When they sat down over their cappuccinos, he asked Rob, “What is grace?”

Rob was able to share the Gospel with him.  He explained that even though children do not come with instruction manuals, he gets guidance through the Bible and teaching his children about God.

 Prayer Requests

  • Pray that believing families in Dubai would have influence over their neighborhoods and boldness to share the Great News.

  • Pray for children of believers to grow up to know the Lord and be salt and light in their schools and neighborhoods
